British, Irish and other EU citizens can enter
Italy with a valid passporty and stay as long
as they like . Citizens of the United States,
Canada, Australia and New Zealand need only
a valid passport, too, but they can stay three
months. All other nationals should consult the
relevant embassy about visa requirements.If
after entering Italy you want to stay more than
90 days, you can apply for a permit for an extra
90 days, which as a rule is granted immediately.

Foreign visitors can bring along most items
for personal use duty-free, including d 200
cigarettes or a quantity of cigars or pipe tobacco
not exceeding 250 grams (.05 oz.). There are
strict limits on importing alcoholic beverages.
However, for alcohol bought tax-paid, limits
are much more liberal than in other countries
of the European Union.
